HTML

Hypertext markup language (HTML) is the language used to create web pages for the internet. HTML is a scripting language and is very easy to learn. HTML is basically used to define content of a web page, and the styling (font color-size-style, layout, background colors etc.) is done through CSS

Hypertext is text that contains hyperlinks. A hyperlink is a reference to another location on the same web page or to another web page. Hyperlinks provides basic ability to navigate web pages.

A markup language is a language used for formatting of text. formatting text means text size, its color, style and other properties. Various tags are used to define properties of text. The tags are enclosed in pointed brackets. For example, the tag that is used to indicate the start of a new paragraph is , and the tag that is used to indicate the end of a paragraph is . Likewise, the tag set for indicating bold text is and ; and thus the coding for the word bold that appears earlier in this sentence is merely bold.

HTML consists of a set of predefined tags that can be embedded in text by programmers to indicate the details of how web pages are displayed by web browsers. These details include paragraphing, margins, fonts (including style and size), columns, colors (background and text), links, the location of images, text flow around images, tables and user input form elements (such as spaces for adding text and submit buttons).

CSS

Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) is a style sheet language used for define styling of a web page written in a HTML. CSS can also be applied to any XML document, including plain XML, SVG and XUL. Along with HTML and JavaScript, CSS is a cornerstone technology used by most websites to create visually appealing webpages, user interfaces for web and mobile applications.

Purpose of CSS to enable the separation of presentation and content, including aspects such as the layout, colors, and fonts. This separation provides more flexibility and control in the presentation , enables multiple HTML pages to obtain formatting from a single .css file, and reduce complexity and repetition in the structural content.

Separation of formatting and content makes it possible to present the same markup page in different styles for different browsers. It can also display the web page differently depending on the screen size or viewing device. Readers can also specify a different style sheet, such as a CSS file stored on their own computer, to override the one the author specified.

Changes to the graphic design of a document (or hundreds of documents) can be applied quickly and easily, by editing a few lines in the CSS file they use, rather than by changing markup in the documents. CSS can be applied to html documents in three ways.

  • Inline CSS
  • Internal (within style tag, inside head section)
  • External .css file

Javascript

Javascript (JS) is a scripting language used to provide interactivity to HTML pages and is usually embedded in HTML code or applied as a separate .js file. JavaScript is an interpreted language. so, it doesn't need to be compiled. JavaScript renders web pages in an interactive and dynamic fashion. This allowing the pages to react to events, exhibit special effects, accept variable text, validate data, create cookies, detect a user’s browser, etc.

HTML pages are fine for displaying static content, e.g. a simple image or text. However, most pages nowadays are rarely static. Many of today’s pages have menus, forms, slideshows and even images that provide user interaction. Javascript is the language used by web programmers to provide such interaction. Since JavaScript works with HTML pages, a developer needs to know HTML to harness this scripting language’s full potential.

There are two ways to use JavaScript in an HTML file. The first one involves embedding all the JavaScript code in the HTML code, while the second method makes use of a separate JavaScript file that’s called from within a Script element, i.e., enclosed by Script tags. JavaScript files are identified by the .js extension. Although JavaScript is mostly used to interact with HTML objects, it can also be made to interact with other non-HTML objects such as browser plugins, CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) properties, the current date, or the browser itself. To write JavaScript code, all you need is a basic text editor like Notepad++, which feature syntax highlighting for JavaScript. This will allow you easily identify elements of JavaScript code. JS is supported by latest versions of almost all browsers.

PHP

PHP is the most popular server side scripting language on the web.With PHP, you can do things like

  • Create username and password login pages
  • Check details from a form
  • Create forums, picture galleries, surveys,
  • Generate HTML content on-the-fly
  • Add, delete, modify data in your database
  • Create, open, read, write, and close files on the serve

PHP is known as a server-sided language, because the PHP doesn't get executed on your computer, but on the computer, you requested the page from. The results are then handed over to you, and displayed in your browser. Other scripting languages you may have heard of are ASP, Python and Perl.

PHP stands for is "Hypertext Pre-processor". The initials come from the earliest version of the program, which was called Personal Home Page Tools.

MySQL

MySQL is a free, open-source database management system (DBMS). A DBMS is a system that manages databases and connects them to software. For example, a MySQL database can be used to run a website, to run the database of an ERP or any other software.

MySQL is a powerful, free open-source database management system that has been around for years. It is very stable and has a big community that helps maintain, debug and upgrade it.

MySQL might not be suitable for larger systems that mostly runs on Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle. These proprietary DBMS have more advanced features that MySQL.

A database is made up of table , which are in turn made of row and columns. Data related to single entity is stored in a row, while data of same type is stored in columns, A typical database table looks like :

With the help of PHP, we can add , delete or edit data in the above table through a form displayed in HTML page.

Adobe Photoshop

Photoshop is a powerful raster based graphics program. Raster means that photoshop works with pixels. Photoshop has a huge number of filters, functions and other tools that help the graphics artist complete their tasks. Photoshop is best suited for photographer. Photoshop has a powerful engine to manipulate digital images. The graphics uses for Photoshop are almost unlimited.

As with any Graphic designing software, Creativity plays an important role in learning and using the software to its full potential.

Photoshop can also be used for creative designing, like designing flyers, brochures, and logos. though for logo designing Adobe Illustrator is suitable as it’s a vector based software. Vector images are not made from pixels but, rather are created through mathematical algorithms.

More than just making graphics for websites, Photoshop can also be used to create entire web pages. The user simply assembles or creates the elements of the page as they would like it to appear. Next they use the "Slice" tool to divide the image into functional parts, including banners or buttons, naming each. Then they use the "Save for Web or Devices" function to export this document as a folder containing the sliced images and an HTML page that they can publish.
